Sponsorship of the Appraiser Diversity Initiative (ADI) Creates Opportunities for New Diverse Generation

With a focus on diversity from our earliest days and a mission of scaling inclusive appraiser trainee and technology teams, Aloft’s Supervisor Sponsorship of the Appraiser Diversity Initiative (ADI) is a natural fit. Led by the Appraisal Institute, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the National Urban League, this Initiative is the premier nationwide program designed to increase diverse entrants into the real estate appraisal field while offering resources and a success roadmap to help them excel within the profession.

Fostering the next generation of forward-thinking appraisers, together Aloft and the ADI are working to grow diversity across the appraisal landscape and help those from a wide range of backgrounds share their unique perspectives and ideas. With Millennials and Gen Z entering their prime years of first-time home buying, training and empowering diverse appraisers helps ensure better appraisal processes and fairer access to owning a home. Given the fact that homes are the single biggest investment the majority of people will ever make and the primary means of transferring generational wealth, creating a more fair process has far-reaching implications.

How Aloft and ADI Are Working Together

Aloft and the ADI collaboratively mentor through DEI-focused (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) apprenticeship models. This offers a one-of-a-kind culture of support, connecting seasoned senior appraisers with qualified trainees that have the potential to grow into high-quality certified appraisers on the Aloft team

Growing future appraisers who work towards equality, inclusivity, and fairness in the profession means coaching and mentorship beyond the intricacies of simply learning appraisal processes. For Aloft and the ADI, this means accelerating the number of appraisers who represent the vastly different communities and markets we serve. This helps create more fair valuations and strengthens the appraiser community through diverse ideas and principles. Increased representation from within all types of communities also helps the industry better understand these areas and their properties at a much deeper level than ever before.

Aloft firmly believes increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion can only benefit the appraisal industry. New gateways for interested future appraisers will open, and previous hurdles to becoming a qualified apprentice or finding a mentor will be removed. By amplifying and scaling diverse applicants within the field, we aim to accelerate the process of change already underway within the industry. Improving appraiser diversity and the quality of home appraisals with proper neighborhood and background knowledge will strengthen not only the appraisal industry, but also communities that have been long underserved.
